This scenic and varied section of the Murray to Clare Lavender Cycling Trail (M2C) takes you through the eastern side of the Barossa Valley wine region.
Truro to Moculta (9 km)
After Truro, the open farmland that you rode between Eudunda and Truro starts to become hillier.
Riding past some newly established vineyards, you come to the town of Moculta, notable for its historic cottages.
Also, an attractive sports ground, with public toilets, shade and picnic areas make it suitable for a break on a hot day.
Moculta to Keyneton (23 km)
A few kilometres out of Moculta, you come to the gate that leads to the Moculta Mausoleum. Following a pine tree-lined driveway for two hundred metres, the track opens out to this unusual building.
Built in 1876, the mausoleum houses the remains of 24 people. As it’s on private property, please take special care to leave everything as you found it.
Cycling on for another five kiometres, you arrive at Gnadenberg Lutheran Church with its pretty trimmed hedges, manse and stables.
Nearby is the Parrot Hill Historic Site, where you can see the remains of Jacob Allert’s home (including a cellar) and a historic implement display.
Following pretty and quiet dirt tracks, you ride on to cross Mount Eagle Road, where the graves of very early white settlers, John and Bridget Evans lie.
Keyneton (pronounced Cane-ton)
The historic town of Keyneton provides a number of interesting landmarks. For more information, you can pick up a brochure about the Keyneton Heritage Trail at the Community Post Office.
Worthwhile stopping points are the Soldiers Memorial Hall, the Independent Chapel and the North Rhine Church, cemetery and bell tower.
At the Keyneton Oval there is a picnic table, public toilets and the opportunity to replenish your water supply.
One kilometre north of the M2C, in the township of Keyneton itself, is the former Temperance Hotel, which successfully operated without selling alcohol from 1883 for sixty-five years!
Keyneton to Eden Valley (14 km)
Leaving Keyneton, you travel through more beautiful vineyards and then begin the climb on Peggy Hill Road.
As you near Eden Valley, Keynes Hill Road is particularly beautiful, with its spectacular views,
rocky outcrops
and vineyards.
With one last lovely descent, you arrive in Eden Valley.
The small town of Eden Valley has an excellent pub and a number of interesting historic buildings, such as the Eden Valley Wine Building.
Food
Once you leave Truro (see M2C Eudunda to Truro for options in Truro), there are no food outlets until you reach the Eden Valley Hotel. However, if you are looking for a meal, please be sure to phone them in advance as their hours can be variable.

Moculta
Lemke Cottage (right on the M2C Trail)
Hutton Vale Farm (2 kilometres from the M2C, suitable for larger groups, minimum 2 nights stay)
Keyneton
Camping: Rams Head Corner, a Trail Head on the Kidman Trail, is only one kilometre from the M2C.
Brockenchack (right on the M2C Trail, minimum 2 nights stay)
Eden Valley
Camping: Eden Valley Showgrounds Caravan Park, corner Rhine Park Road and Eden Valley Road, phone 8568 1934.
Public Toilets
Public toilets are available at Moculta and Keyneton ovals. At Eden Valley the public toilets are located on the M2C Trail at the caravan park, one kilometre south of the town.
